This wonderful event is the reason why the new Gal Gear Grocery Totes were not posted last week. Herkimer CCC went to the NJCAA World Series in Tyler Texas. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to see this talented team play for the national title. They finished 3rd in the nation. Congratulations Herkimer Generals!!
It's been a while, but I checked my bag on a recent trip to Texas. Since the computers at DFW were processing so slowly, the airline agent at check-in decided to hand write the destination on our tags. Since they were processed without the aid of the handheld scanner they did not make the transition to our connecting flight. I guess they arrived in SYR later that night. US Airways had them delivered to us at home.
When I travel, I always place a luggage tag inside my bag, just in case the tag on the exterior of the bag is removed. This trip I decided to attach two tags to the outside of my bag; a Gal Gear yellow tag and the Hartmann tag that came with the bag. Much to my surprise, the Hartmann tag was ripped from the bag. (see red circle in photo above) The Gal Gear tag was a little dirty, but still firmly attached. The dirt was easily cleaned with "Simple Green®" all-purpose cleaner. I don't have an affiliation with the company that makes Simple Green, I just know it works well on vinyl. Simple Green® worked very well on the luggage, too.
Where do you keep those plastic bags that you get from the store when you have forgotten to take your grocery totes? I keep mine in a basket, one in our pantry and one in our closet. We can pull one bag out through the handle without moving the basket.
My sister asked me to create something for her to hang on the wall. She said "Something nautical". Using remnants from a canvas bag project, some store bought piping, and a couple of grommets I created the two holders shown here. I gave them the nautical touch with my Silhouette Cameo and some white vinyl from ExpressionsVinyl.com. I'm putting them in the mail today. I hope she likes them.
So far this month, the Black, White & Gray Grocery Tote is the most popular.
The classic pattern nicely hides stains and dirt.
The bag is beautiful and on it's way
This jewelry roll was made especially for a very thoughtful young lady. During the tournament in Delaware the heat was oppressive, she cut up her beach towel, soaked the pieces in ice water and gave them to players and parents sweating in the hot sun. She used tiny scissors from my first aid kit... and I know first hand how hard it is to cut fabric with dull scissors. Thank you Ally, you're the best!
One of the most fun projects I've done was for the "Baseball Moms" of my son's summer baseball team.
Over the years we've traveled with many of the families to various venues for baseball tournaments. So our team knows how to pack and travel to these events. As we were packing up at the end of one tournament someone jokingly suggested I should make Dawg Bags for the team. What a great idea! So I got busy and in one week I had made 18 bags. I made one for each mom, personalized with her player's number. I presented them to the moms at the NYS Big League Tournament in Wappingers Falls later that week. I knew it might be the last tournament we'd travel together, as several players would be too old to play with this team next year. Well, our team won!! The Cicero Dawgs are the 2013 New York State Big League Champions. The boys went on to represent New York State in the Regional Tournament in Dover Delaware. They were eliminated in the championship game by the New Jersey State Champions. Unfortunately, the New Jersey team was asked to leave the Regional Tournament in South Carolina. They were not able to field a team after 7 players were caught on surveillance cameras vandalizing a door in the Southern Wesleyan University gym where they were staying.
Gal Gear Designs behind the scene
I'm involved in many other design projects. Here's what is going on behind the scene.
