How to get a great spot by the pool at a resort...
Here's my secret... For our 2007 trip to a resort in Cancun, I made a simple bag for each of us and placed a magazine, newspaper or book in each. I left them on a lounge chair each morning that we planned to spend the day at the pool. This worked better than leaving a resort towel on the lounge. No one moved them. I made the bags to be functional with a little personality, but I really didn't care if they were lost. Here is a photo of one of the bags that still exists. The other bags, drawstring gym/book bags made of denim were donated to the Rescue Mission.
Tip: Don't put your bags out every morning, someone will catch on or assume they're lost. They may end up in the Lost and Found.
I have a little secret that I am now willing to share. If you've ever been to a large resort you know the early morning routine of saving chairs/lounges near the pool. By leaving a towel or item on a chair or lounge, in theory, it should be waiting for you when you finally stroll to the pool during the busiest hours of the day. Well this is where it all began, my first piece of "gear".
